The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera this day at 12:09 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Bill Rompkey, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cochrane, Hubley, Johnson, MacDonald, Meredith, Patterson, Raine, Rompkey, P.C., and Watt (9).

In attendance: Claude Emery, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 25, 2010, the committee continued to examine issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered a draft report.

After debate, it was agreed that the draft report entitled Report on the Implementation of the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act be adopted, as amended; that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to approve the final version of the report taking into account the changes discussed today, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required; and that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate, at the earliest opportunity.

At 12:54 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
