The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day, at 4:10 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Nancy Ruth, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Brazeau, Hubley, Kochhar, Munson, Nancy Ruth and Zimmer (8).

In attendance: Havi Echenberg, Researcher, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, the committee continued its examination of issues relating to human rights and, inter alia, to review the machinery of government dealing with Canada's international and national human rights obligations. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.) (Federal programs supporting sports and recreational activities for children and youth with disabilities.)

David Legg, President.

Canadian Paraplegic Association:

Robert White, Executive Director.

Special Olympics Canada:

Neil Glasberg, Interim President and Chief Executive Officer;

Sharon Bollenbach, Vice-President, Sport;

Christina Judd-Campbell, Athlete.

As an individual (by video conference):

Colette Bourgonje.

Messrs. Legg, White, Glasberg and Ms. Judd-Campbell each made a statement and, together with Ms. Bollenbach, answered questions.

At 5:32 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:42 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Bourgonje made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:38 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
