The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 4:18 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Joan Fraser, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Carignan, Fraser, Joyal, P.C., Patterson, Raine, Rivest, Runciman, Wallace and Watt (10).
In attendance: Jennifer Bird and Cynthia Kirkby, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Mona Ishack, Communications Officer.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the committee continued consideration of its study of the provisions and operation of the DNA Identification Act (S.C. 1998, c. 37). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Maxxam Analytics:
Wayne Murray, Director, Forensic and DNA Services;
Martin Westecott, Supervisor/Forensic Biologist.
The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Murray and Mr. Chahal each made a statement and, together with Mr. Westecott, answered questions.
At 6:21 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Public Safety Canada:
Barry MacKillop, Director General, Law Enforcement and Border Services Directorate.
The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Yost and Mr. MacKillop each made a statement and answered questions.
At 12:12 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 12:22 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of today's meeting.
At 1:47 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
