The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communication met in camera this day at 6:47 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, Dawson, Fox, P.C., Frum, Johnson, MacDonald, Martin, Mercer, Plett and Zimmer (10).

In attendance: Terry Thomas, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communication Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the committee continued its study on emerging issues related to its communications mandate — wireless sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered a draft agenda.

It was agreed:

That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure would approve the outline of the report and provide drafting instructions to the analyst in preparation of the final report.

At 7:48 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communication met this day at 6:46 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Cochrane, Dawson, Frum, Housakos, Johnson, MacDonald, Martin, Mercer, Moore and Plett (11).

In attendance: Terry Thomas, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the committee continued its study on emerging issues related to its communications mandate — wireless sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Information Technology Association of Canada:

Bernard Courtois, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Brendan Glauser, Manager, Communications.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Courtois made a presentation and answered questions.

At 7:44 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the committee continued its study on emerging issues related to its communications mandate — wireless sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed:

That the chair be authorized to seek the authority of the Senate for an order of reference on the subject of the airline industry and that the final wording of the order of reference be approved by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure based on comments of members made today.

At 7:23 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
