The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communication met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cochrane, Dawson, Fox, P.C., Frum, Housakos, Johnson, MacDonald, Martin, Mercer and Plett (10).

In attendance: Dean Ruffilli and Terry Thomas, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, the committee began its study on emerging issues related to the Canadian airline industry.

WITNESSES:

Transport Canada:

Kristine Burr, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy;

Brigita Gravitis-Beck, Director General, Air Policy;

Isabelle Trépanier, Director, National Air Services Policy.

Michel Villeneuve, Director, Transport Statistics, Economic Analysis.

The chair made opening statement.

Ms. Burr made presentation and, together with Ms. Gravitis-Beck and Ms. Trépanier, answered questions.

At 11:19 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
