The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Downe, Fortin-Duplessis, Frum, Johnson, Lang, Mahovlich, Nolin, Robichaud, P.C., Smith, P.C. (Cobourg) and Stratton (11).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Brian Hermon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 2, 2012, the committee continued its examination on Canadian foreign policy regarding Iran, its implications, and other related matters. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

WITNESSES:

As individuals:

Ramin Jahanbegloo, Associate Professor of Political Science, University of Toronto (by video conference);

Ali Ehsassi, Lawyer;

Kaveh Shahrooz, Lawyer.

Mr. Jahanbegloo with Mr. Ehsassi and Mr. Shahrooz made a statement and together answered questions.

At 5:45 p.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 29, 2012, the committee continued its examination of the Document entitled: Passport Canada's Fee-for-Service Proposal to Parliament, dated March 2012, pursuant to the User Fees Act, S.C. 2004, C. 6, sbs. 4(2). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 11.)

The Honourable Senator Fortin-Duplessis moved:

That the committee recommend to the Senate to approve the document Passport Canada's Fee-for-Service Proposal to Parliament, dated March 2012, pursuant to the User Fees Act.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 5:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
