The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Campbell, Chaput, Downe, Finley, Fortin-Duplessis, Hubley, Johnson, Rivard, Smith, P.C. (Cobourg), and Wallace (11).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Brown and De Bané, P.C. (2).
In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn, Brian Hermon and Erin Shaw, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, the committee began its study on economic and political developments in the Republic of Turkey, their regional and global influences, the implications for Canadian interests and opportunities, and other related matters.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada:
John Kur, Director General, Europe and Eurasia;
Marie Gervais-Vidricaire, Director General, Stabilisation and Reconstruction Task Force;
Mark Bailey, Director General, Middle East and Maghreb Bureau;
Jennifer May, Director, Turkey Bureau.
Mr. Kur made a statement, and, together with Ms. Gervais-Vidricaire, Mr. Bailey and Ms. May, answered questions.
At 12:12 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
