The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Black, Dawson, Demers, Downe, Fortin-Duplessis, Johnson, Robichaud, P.C., Smith, P.C., (Cobourg) and Wallace (10).
In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Brian Hermon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, the committee continued its study on economic and political developments in the Republic of Turkey, their regional and global influences, the implications for Canadian interests and opportunities, and other related matters. The chair presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to the clerk of the committee, Mr. Adam Thompson.
The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Alessandri made a statement and answered questions.
At 5:20 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:22 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Barkey made a statement and answered questions.
At 6:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
