The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:04 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Fernand Robichaud, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buth, Mahovlich, Maltais, Merchant, Plett, Rivard and Robichaud, P.C. (7).
In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 16, 2011, the committee continued its consideration of research and innovation efforts in the agricultural sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

David Wilkes, Senior Vice President, Grocery Division;
Karen Proud, Vice-President, Federal Government Relations.
Canadian 4-H Council:
Mike Nowosad, Chief Executive Officer;
Sue Walker, Director of Development and Provincial Relations.
Agriculture in the Classroom — Manitoba:
Johanne Ross, Executive Director.
Mr. Wilkes made an opening statement and, together with Ms. Proud, answered questions.
At 6:02 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:07 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Nowosad, Ms. Walker and Ms. Ross each made opening statements and answered questions.
At 7:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
