The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buth, Eaton, Mahovlich, Maltais, Mercer, Merchant, Mockler, Rivard and Robichaud, P.C. (9).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 16, 2011, the committee continued its consideration of research and innovation efforts in the agricultural sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Conseil de la transformation alimentaire et des produits de consommation:

Sylvie Cloutier, President and CEO;

Carole Fortin, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs;

Dimitri Fraeys, Vice President, Innovation and Member Relations;

Jean-Pierre Lacombe, President, Groupe conseil R&D;

Richard Cloutier, President and CEO, Centre québécois de valorisation des biotechnologies.

Ms. Cloutier and Mr. Lacombe each made opening statements and, together with Ms. Fortin, Mr. Fraeys and Mr. Cloutier, answered questions.

At 9:45 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
