The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 6:48 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Campbell, Lang, Meredith, Munson, Patterson and St. Germain, P.C. (7).

In attendance: Shauna Troniak, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, the committee continued its consideration of Bill S-8, An Act respecting the safety of drinking water on First Nation lands. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 15.)

WITNESSES:

Jim Aldridge, Counsel.

Treaty 6 and 7 of Alberta:

Clayton D. Leonard, Counsel.

Mr. McKay, Mr. Aldridge and Mr. Leonard each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 8:15 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
