The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, in camera, at 9:33 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Cordy, Demers, Dyck, Martin, Raine, St. Germain, P.C., and White (8).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Patterson (1).
In attendance: Shauna Troniak and Wren Nasr, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the committee continued its consideration on the evolving legal and political recognition of the collective identity and rights of the Métis in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.
It was moved that the next meeting of the committee be held on November 6, 2012, with the first item of business being the election of a new chair.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 10:30 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
