The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 9:32 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Vernon White, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Beyak, Demers, Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, Patterson, Raine, Seth, Watt and White (10).

In attendance: Shauna Troniak, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 13, 2012, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-27, An Act to enhance the financial accountability and transparency of First Nations. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 31.)

WITNESSES:

Assembly of First Nations:

Jody Wilson-Raybould, British Columbia Regional Chief.

Karen Campbell, Senior Policy Analyst.

Idle No More:

Charlene Desrochers, Barrister and Solicitor.

Ms Wilson-Raybould made a statement and answered questions.

Ms Desrochers made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:47 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:58 a.m., pursuant to rule12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to stay.

At 11:30 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
