The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 9:30 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Vernon White, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Demers, Lovelace Nicholas, Munson, Patterson, Raine, Seth, Sibbeston, Tannas and White (9).
In attendance: Shauna Troniak and Wren Nasr, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 16, 2011, the committee continued its consideration of the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples and other matters generally relating to the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada. WITNESSES:

Howard Sapers, Correctional Investigator;
Marie-France Kingsley, Director of Investigations.
Mr. Sapers and Ms. Kingsley each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
At 11:15 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
