The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met in camera this day, at 9:35 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Vernon White, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Demers, Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, Munson, Patterson, Raine, Seth, Tannas, Watt and White (11).
In attendance: Shauna Troniak and Wren Nasr, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 16, 2011, the committee continued its consideration of the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples and other matters generally relating to the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that staff be permitted to remain during the in camera portion of the meeting.
At 10:30 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:35 a.m., the committee resumed in public.

Annie Leblanc, Director, Policy and Coordination;
Daniel Sansfaçon, Director, Policy, Research and Evaluation Division;
Kimberly Lavoie, Director, Aboriginal Corrections Policy Division.
Mr. Tupper made a statement and, together with Ms. Leblanc, Mr. Sansfaçon and Ms. Lavoie, answered questions.
At 11:30 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
