The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:33 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eaton, Gerstein, Greene, Harb, Maltais, Moore, Oliver, Ringuette, Smith (Saurel) and Tkachuk (10).

In attendance: John Bulmer, June Dewetering and Adriane Yong, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, the committee continued its review of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (S.C. 2000, c. 17), pursuant to section 72 of the said Act. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 9.)

WITNESSES:

Frank Swedlove, President;

Jean-Pierre Bernier, Special Advisor to the President, Risk Management.

Canadian Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies:

Allan Bulloch, Chair, Legislative Committee.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation:

Derek Ramm, Director, Anti-Money Laundering Programs, Legal, Regulatory & Compliance.

Canadian Gaming Association:

Paul Burns, Vice President.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Swedlove and Mr. Bulloch made statements and, together with Mr. Bernier, answered questions.

At 11:29 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:31 p.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Burns and Mr. Ramm made statements and, together, answered questions.

At 12:24 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
