The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day, at 8:06 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Grant Mitchell, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Brown, Johnson, Lang, Massicotte, Mitchell, Patterson, Ringuette, Seidman, Sibbeston and Wallace (10).

In attendance: Marc LeBlanc and Sam Banks, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, the committee continued its examination on the current state of the safety elements of the bulk transport of hydrocarbon products in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 34.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Energy Pipeline Association:

Brenda Kenny, President and Chief Executive Officer (by video conference);

Ziad Saad, Vice-President, Safety and Sustainability (by video conference).

The deputy chair made an opening statement.

Ms. Kenny and Mr. Saad together made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:57 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
