The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Senator Joan Fraser, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Baker, P.C., Boisvenu, Cowan, Dagenais, Fraser, Frum, Jaffer, Joyal, P.C., McIntyre, Ngo, Runciman and White (12).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Braley (1).

In attendance: Lyne Casavant and Christine Morris, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-290, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sports betting).

WITNESS:

Simon Fraser University:

Tim Rahilly, Associate Vice-President, Students.

The deputy chair made an opening statement.

The Honourable Senator White moved:

That all briefs and submissions received by the committee on Bill C-290 be posted to the committee's website and that the list of submissions be appended to the Minutes of Proceedings.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Mr. Rahilly made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:28 the committee suspended.

At 11:39 the committee resumed.

It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-290, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sports betting).

It was agreed that the title stand postponed.

It was agreed that clause 1 carry, on division.

It was agreed that clause 2 carry, on division.

It was agreed that the title carry, on division.

It was agreed that the bill carry, on division.

It was agreed that the deputy chair report the bill to the Senate.

At 11:43 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
