The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 6:45 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buth, Callbeck, Dagenais, Day, Demers, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Mitchell, Nancy Ruth, Neufeld, Peterson and Smith (Saurel) (12).
In attendance: Marc Leblanc, Édison Roy-César, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, the committee began its examination of Bill S-205, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (carbon offset tax credit).
WITNESSES:
The Honourable Senator Grant Mitchell, sponsor of the bill.
Department of Finance Canada:
Sean Keenan, Director, Personal Income Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch;
Suzanne White, Chief, Resources, Energy and Environment, Economic Development and Corporate Finance Branch.
The Honourable Senator Mitchell made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:47 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:52 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Keenan made a statement, and together with Ms. White, answered questions.
At 8:28 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
