The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 9:36 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Buth, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, De Bané, P.C., Finley, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., McInnis, Nancy Ruth, Neufeld and Smith (Saurel) (12).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Marshall, Mitchell and Ringuette (3).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Édison Roy-César, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-46, An Act to amend the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 26.)

Mr. Ménard made a statement and, together with Mr. Pomroy, Ms. Kelly, Ms. Arnold and Ms. Gowing, answered questions.

At 11:21 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:26 a.m., the committee resumed.

At 11:26 a.m., it was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-46, An Act to amend the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act.
