The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Black, Buth, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., McInnis, Neufeld and Smith (Saurel) (11).

In attendance: Édison Roy-César and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, the committee continued its examination of the expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 34.)

WITNESSES:

Citizenship and Immigration Canada:

Amipal Manchanda, Assistant Deputy Minister, Chief Financial Officer;

Catrina Tapley, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic and Program Policy;

Robert Orr, Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations.

Public Safety Canada:

John Ossowski, Associate Deputy Minister;

Gary Robertson, Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Management Branch.

Correctional Service of Canada:

Don Head, Commissioner;

Liette Dumas-Sluyter, Assistant Commissioner, Corporate Services.

Mr. Manchanda made a statement and, together with Ms. Tapley and Mr. Orr, answered questions.

At 10:36 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:40 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Ossowski and Mr. Head each made a statement and, together with Mr. Robertson and Ms. Dumas-Sluyter, answered questions.

At 11:42 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
