Issue 12 - Fifth Report of the Committee
Thursday, May 3, 2012
The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights has the honour to table its
FIFTH REPORT
Your committee, which was authorized by the Senate on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, to invite the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development to appear with his officials before the committee for the purpose of updating the members of the committee on actions taken concerning the recommendations contained in the committee's report entitled A Hard Bed to lie in: Matrimonial Real Property on Reserve, tabled in the Senate November 4, 2003, is pleased to report as follows:
The Committee heard from the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development on November 21, 2011 during its study of Bill S-2, An Act respecting family homes situated on First Nation reserves and matrimonial interests or rights in or to structures and lands situated on thoses reserves. Since the proposed legislation responds to many of the key concerns identified in your committee's report, it now reports that a further meeting with the minister is no longer necessary at this point and has hereby concluded its study into this matter.
Respectfully submitted,
MOBINA S. B. JAFFER
