The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 4:04 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Pamela Wallin, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Day, Lang, Munson, Nolin, Plett, Segal and Wallin (8).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Manning (1).
In attendance: Martin Auger and Holly Porteous, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, the committee continued its study of Canada's national security and defence policies, practices, circumstances and capabilities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Vice-Admiral Bruce Donaldson, Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff;
Matthew King, Associate Deputy Minister;
Kevin Lindsey, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer;
Rear-Admiral Jennifer Bennett, Chief of Reserves and Cadets;
Scott Stevenson, Assistant Deputy Minister (Infrastructure and Environment).

John Richmond, Director, Community Outreach.
Vice-Admiral Donaldson made a statement and, together with Messrs. King and Lindsey, answered questions.
At 5:16 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:20 p.m., the committee resumed.
Vice-Admiral Donaldson, with Rear-Admiral Bennett and Mr. Stevenson, answered questions.
At 6:25 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:29 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Roy made an opening statement and, together with Mr. Richmond, answered questions.
At 7:08 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
