The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 3:57 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Pamela Wallin, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Dawson, Day, Lang, Mitchell, Plett, Stewart Olsen, Wallace and Wallin (9).
In attendance: Martin Auger and Holly Porteous, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, the committee continued its study of Canada's national security and defence policies, practices, circumstances and capabilities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
Public Safety Canada:
John Davies, Director General, National Security Policy.
Canada Border Services Agency:
Geoff Leckey, Director General, Intelligence and Targeting.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police:
Mike Cabana, Assistant Commissioner, Federal and International Operations;
Guy Poudrier, Superintendant, Director, Customs and Excise Branch.
Canadian Security Intelligence Service:
Jeff Yaworski, Assistant Director, Operations.
Messrs. Davies, Leckey, Cabana and Yaworski each made an opening statement. Together, all the witnesses answered questions.
At 5:19 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
