The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 4 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Roméo Antonius Dallaire, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Dawson, Day, Lang, Nolin, Stewart Olsen, Plett and Robichaud, P.C. (8).
In attendance: Martin Auger and Holly Porteous, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, the committee continued its study of Canada's national security and defence policies, practices, circumstances and capabilities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Lieutenant-General Walter Semianiw, Commander, Canada Command.
Lieutenant-General Stuart Beare, Commander, Canadian Expeditionary Force Command.

Colonel George Petrolekas, Telecommunications Executive.
Lieutenant General Semianiw made a statement and answered questions.
At 5:04 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:08 p.m., the committee resumed.
Lieutenant-General Beare made a statement and answered questions.
At 6:05 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:09 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Chapin and Colonel Petrolekas each made a statement, and, together, answered questions.
At 7:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
