The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:29 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the Honourable Kelvin K. Ogilvie, Chair, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Cordy, Demers, Dyck, Eggleton, P.C., Martin, Ogilvie, Seidman, Verner, P.C., and Wallace (10).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Poirier (1).

In attendance: Sonya Norris and Karin Phillips, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2011, the committee continued its study on prescription pharmaceuticals in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

WITNESSES:

As individuals:

Trudo Lemmens, Scholl Chair in Health Law and Policy, Faculty of Law, University of Toronto;

Françoise Baylis, Professor and Canada Research Chair, Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University;

Ann Silversides, Independent journalist, Health Policy.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Silversides, Mr. Lemmens and Ms. Baylis each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 12:24 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
