The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:18 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, Honourable Senator Kelvin K. Ogilvie, Chair, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dyck, Eggleton, P.C., Enverga, Martin, Munson, Ogilvie, Raine, Seidman, Seth and Verner, P.C. (10).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2011, the committee continued its study on prescription pharmaceuticals in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

Canadian Medical Association:

Dr. Anna Reid, President;

Millicent Toombs, Director, Public Health Department.

Canadian Nurses Association:

Barbara Mildon, President.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Bouchard, Dr. Reid and Ms. Mildon each made a statement and, together with Ms. Toombs, answered questions.

At 5:57 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
