The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:14 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin K. Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Cordy, Dyck, Eaton, Eggleton, P.C., Martin, Merchant, Munson, Ogilvie, Seidman, Seth and Verner, P.C. (12).
In attendance: Sandra Gruescu and Sonya Norris, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, the committee began its study on Bill C-44, An Act to amend the Amend the Canada Labour Code and the Employment Insurance Act and to make consequential amendments to the Income Tax Act and the Income Tax Regulations.

At 5:11 p.m. the committee resumed.
Ms. O'Sullivan and Mr. Surprenant each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
At 5:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
