The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 8:35 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Stephen Greene, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Doyle, Eggleton, P.C., Greene, MacDonald, Martin, Mercer, Unger, Verner, P.C. and Zimmer (10).

In attendance: Terrence J. Thomas, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 3, 2012, the committee began its examination of the subject-matter of those elements contained in Division 41 of part 4 of Bill C-38, An Act to implement certain provision of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures.

The minister made an opening statement and, together with Ms. Morgan, answered questions.

At 9:30 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
