The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 10:35 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Dawson, Demers, Downe, Fortin-Duplessis, Johnson, Oh, Smith (Saurel), Smith, P.C. (Cobourg), and Verner, P.C. (11).
In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Brian Hermon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 21, 2013, the committee continued its study on security conditions and economic developments in the Asia-Pacific region, the implications for Canadian policy and interests in the region, and other related matters. The chair made an opening statement.
Messrs. Petri and McGuinness each made a statement and answered questions.
At 11:22 a.m., Senator Downe took the chair.
At 11:25 a.m., Senator Andreychuk took the chair.
At 11:52 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 11:54 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room.
At 12 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
