The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:55 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dagenais, Enverga, Mockler, Oh, Rivard, Robichaud, P.C., Smith (Saurel), and Tardif (9).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly and Jed Chong, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 23, 2014, the committee continued its study on international market access priorities for the Canadian agricultural and agri-food sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 18.)

WITNESSES:

Egg Farmers of Canada:

Peter Clarke, Chair;

Tim Lambert, Chief Executive Officer.

Chicken Farmers of Canada:

Mike Dungate, Executive Director;

Yves Ruel, Manager of Trade and Policy.

Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance:

Claire Citeau, Executive Director;

Ron Davidson, Director;

Phil de Kemp, Director.

Mr. Lambert and Mr. Dungate made statements and, together with Mr. Clarke and Mr. Ruel, answered questions.

At 7 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:07 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Citeau made a statement and, together with Mr. Davidson and Mr. de Kemp, answered questions.

At 7:53 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:56 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda.

It was moved:

That with respect to Bill C-18, the chair, Senator Dagenais and Senator Tardif be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee with respect to its agenda, to invite witnesses and to schedule hearings.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 7:58 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
