The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8:07 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dagenais, Enverga, Maltais, Mockler, Ogilvie, Oh, Tardif and Unger (9).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly and Jed Chong, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 23, 2014, the committee continued its study on international market access priorities for the Canadian agricultural and agri-food sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 18.)

WITNESSES:

University of Guelph:

Sylvain Charlebois, Associate Dean, College of Management and Economics (by video conference).

GS1 Canada:

Ryan Eickmeier, Senior Director, Public Affairs.

Mr. Charlebois made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:06 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:08 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Eickmeier made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:47 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:50 a.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made a statement.

After debate, it was agreed:

That the following budget application (on international market access priorities for the Canadian agricultural and agri-food sector) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:
