The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 4:50 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Campbell, Gerstein, Greene, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Maltais, Massicotte, Raine, Ringuette, Tannas and Tkachuk (11).
In attendance: Brett Stuckey and Adriane Yong, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 30, 2014, the committee began its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 9, 12, 18, 22, 26, and 27 of Part 4 of Bill C-43, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures.

Paul Rochon, Deputy Minister;
Rob Stewart, Assistant Deputy Minister, Financial Sector Policy Branch;
Brian Ernewein, General Director, Tax Policy Branch.
Mr. Oliver made a statement and, together with Mr. Rochon, Mr. Stewart and Mr. Ernewein, answered questions.
At 5:32 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:35 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda.
It was moved that the senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room and that blackberries and cellular phones not be used.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 5:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
