The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 7:59 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Richard Neufeld, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Boisvenu, Massicotte, Mitchell, Neufeld, Patterson, Seidman and Wallace (8).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Lang (1).

In attendance: Sam Banks and Marc LeBlanc, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-6, An Act to amend the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act and the Nunavut Waters and Nunavut Surface Rights Tribunal Act.

WITNESSES:

Council of Yukon First Nations:

Ruth Massie, Grand Chief;

Daryn R. Leas, Legal Counsel.

Little-Salmon/Carmacks First Nation:

Eric Fairclough, Chief.

Champagne and Aishihik First Nations:

Mary Jane Jim, Councilor;

Brian MacDonald, Legal Counsel;

Roger Brown, Manager of Environment and Natural Resources.

Yukon Energy Corporation:

David Morrison, President and CEO.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Massie, Mr. Fairclough and Ms. Jim made a statement and, together with Mr. Leas, Mr. MacDonald and Mr. Brown, answered questions.

At 9:19 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:22 a.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Morrison made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:59 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
