The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met at 4:15 p.m. this day, in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Bob Runciman, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Baker, P.C., Batters, Boisvenu, Cordy, Dagenais, Joyal, P.C., Lang, McInnis, McIntyre, Rivest, Runciman and White (12).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Tannas (1).

In attendance: Robin MacKay and Julian Walker, analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, the committee continued its study on the subject matter of Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (trafficking in contraband tobacco). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 16.)

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Wuttke, Chief Maracle, Chief Deer, Chief McNaughton, Ms. Green and Mr. Detlor each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:27 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:38 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Gagnon and Mr. Myers each made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
