The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Buth, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., LeBreton, P.C., Mockler, Seth and Smith (Saurel) (10).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament and Francine Pressault, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 7, 2013, the committee began its examination of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014.

Mostafa Askari, Assistant Parliamentary Budget Officer, Economic and Fiscal Analysis;

Peter Weltman, Acting Assistant Parliamentary Budget Officer, Expenditure and Revenue Analysis;

Jason Jacques, Director, Economic and Fiscal Analysis;

Trevor Shaw, Analyst, Economic and Fiscal Analysis.

Mr. Fréchette made a statement and, together with Mr. Askari, Mr. Weltman, Mr. Jacques and Mr. Shaw, answered questions.

At 11:25 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
