The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 2 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Buth, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Mockler, Rivard and Smith (Saurel) (10).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Mark Palmer, Procedural Clerk, Committees Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, the committee continued its examination of the subject-matter of Bill C-31, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures.

Patricia Paul-Carson, Policy Advisor.

Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association:

Kathleen O'Brien, Public and Media Relations.

Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada:

Tom King, Associate Partner, KPMG LLP.

Ms. Paul-Carson made a statement and, together with Ms. Eggertson, answered questions.

At 3 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:02 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. O'Brien and Mr. King each made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:46 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
