The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 1:55 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Buth, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, Eaton, Gerstein, Mockler, Rivard and Smith (Saurel) (10).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Mark Palmer, Procedural Clerk, Committees Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, the committee continued its examination of the subject-matter of Bill C-31, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures. Paul Beesley, Detective Inspector, Anti-Rackets Branch (by video conference).

Canadian Bankers Association:

Darren Hannah, Acting Vice President, Policy and Operations.

Mr. Beesley and Mr. Hannah each made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:38 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
