The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, Eaton, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Mockler, Rivard and Smith (Saurel) (10).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Mark Palmer, Procedural Clerk, Committees Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 15, 2014, the committee began its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2014-15 for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2015.

WITNESSES:

Natural Resources Canada:

Jean-Frédéric Lafaille, Director General, AECL Restructuring;

David McCauley, Director, Uranium and Radioactive Waste Division, Electricity Resources Branch, Energy Sector.

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited:

Robert Walker, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Steve Halpenny, Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer.

Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat:

Bill Matthews, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector;

Marcia Santiago, Executive Director, Expenditure Management Sector;

George Samiotis, Director.

Mr. Lafaille and Mr. Walker each made a statement and, together with Mr. McCauley and Mr. Halpenny, answered questions.

At 10:45 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:48 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Matthews made a statement and, together with Ms. Santiago and Mr. Samiotis, answered questions.

At 11:40 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
