The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 2:33 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Black, Boisvenu, Chaput, Day, Eaton, Gerstein, Rivard and Smith (Saurel) (9).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Baker, P.C., Dawson and Runciman (3).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 30, 2014, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-43, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 20.)

WITNESSES:

The Honourable Senator Dennis Dawson, Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications;

The Honourable Senator Bob Runciman, Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs;

The Honourable Senator George Baker, P.C., Deputy Chair, Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs.

The Honourable Senator Dawson made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:45 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:46 p.m., the committee resumed.

The Honourable Senator Runciman made a statement and, together with Senator Baker, P.C., answered questions.

At 3 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
