Proceedings of the Standing Senate Committee on
Official Languages
Issue 8 - Evidence - Meeting of September 17, 2014
OTTAWA, Wednesday, September 17, 2014
The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 11:49 a.m. to proceed with the election of the deputy chair of the committee.
Senator Claudette Tardif (Chair) in the chair.
[Translation]
The Chair: Honourable senators, I call this meeting of the Standing Committee on Official Languages to order. I would first like to welcome you back. I hope you all had a good summer. I would especially like to welcome our new members, Senator Maltais and Senator Seidman.
Given that Senator Champagne retired, the position of deputy chair is vacant, and it is my duty to preside over the election of a new deputy chair. I am now ready to receive a motion to that effect; is there a nomination?
Senator Chaput: I would like to nominate Senator Fortin-Duplessis for the position of deputy chair.
The Chair: Is it the pleasure of the honourable senators to adopt the motion?
Hon. Senators: Agreed.
(Motion agreed to.)
The Chair: Our heartiest congratulations to Senator Fortin-Duplessis. We are glad, and I look forward to working with you as the deputy chair of the committee.
Senator Fortin-Duplessis: So do I.
The Chair: Our sincere thanks also go to Senator Andrée Champagne, who retired, for her outstanding work as deputy chair.
The committee proceedings will now continue in camera so that we can discuss the future business of the committee and a draft report.
(The committee continued in camera.)
