The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day, at 5 p.m., in room 9 of the Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Claudette Tardif, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Charette-Poulin, Fortin-Duplessis, Maltais, McIntyre, Poirier, Seidman and Tardif (8).
In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 12, 2014, the committee began its study on Bill S-205, An Act to amend the Official Languages Act (communications with and services to the public).
WITNESSES:
The Honourable Senator Maria Chaput, sponsor of the bill;
Vrouyr Makalian, Policy Advisor, Office of Senator Chaput.
Senator Chaput made an opening statement and, with Mr. Makalian, answered questions.
At 6:21 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:26 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee continued in camera for consideration of a draft report.
It was agreed that the report be amended.
It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be concurred in.
At 7:16 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
