The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence has the honour to table its
SEVENTH REPORT
Your committee, which was authorized to examine the subject-matter of those elements contained in Divisions 1 and 7 of Part 6 of Bill C-31, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures, introduced in the House of Commons on March 28, 2014, has, in obedience to the order of reference of Wednesday, April 9, 2014, examined the said subject matter and now reports as follows:
Your committee supports the elements in Division 1 of Part 6 of Bill C-31 that provides for payments to compensate for deductions in certain benefits and allowances that are payable under the Canadian Forces Members and Veterans Re-establishment and Compensation Act, the War Veterans Allowance Act and the Civilian War-related Benefits Act.
Your committee also supports the elements in Division 7 of Part 6 of Bill C-31 that amends the National Defence Act to recognize the historic names of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force while preserving the integration and the unification achieved under the Canadian Forces Reorganization Act and to provide that the designations of rank and the circumstances of their use are prescribed in regulations made by the Governor in Council.
