The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 1:01 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dagenais, Day, Fortin-Duplessis, Kenny, Lang, Ngo and White (8).
In attendance: Holly Porteous, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 19, 2014, the committee continued its study on security threats facing Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 9.)

Public Safety Canada:
Gary Robertson, Assistant Deputy Minister, National and Cyber Security Branch;
John Davies, Director General, National Security Policy, National and Cyber Security Branch;
Anna Gray-Henschel, Senior Director, National Security Policy Division.
Canadian Security Intelligence Service:
Tom Venner, Assistant Director, Policy and Strategic Partnerships.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police:
Superintendent Shirley Cuillierrier, Director General, Partnerships and External Relations;
Sergeant Renuka Dash, Acting Officer in Charge, Federal Policing, Public Engagement.
Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police:
Deputy Commissioner Scott Tod, Ontario Provincial Police, Co-chair of the Counter Terrorism and National Security Committee.
The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Robertson and Mr. Venner each made a statement and, together with Mr. Davies and Ms. Gray-Henschel, answered questions.
At 2:25 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 2:32 p.m., the committee resumed.
Superintendent Cuillierrier made a statement and, together with Sergeant Dash, answered questions.
At 3:33 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 4:02 p.m., the committee resumed.
It was agreed that Deputy Commissioner Tod's presentation be distributed in one language only and that the translation follow once available.
Deputy Commissioner Tod made a statement and answered questions.
At 4:52 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 4:54 p.m., the committee resumed in camera pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), for the consideration of a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room.
At 5:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
