The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:13 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Cordy, Eggleton, P.C., Enverga, Merchant, Nancy Ruth, Ogilvie, Seidman, Stewart Olsen and Wallace (10).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, the committee continued its study of Bill C-442, An Act respecting a Federal Framework on Lyme Disease.

WITNESSES:

Canadian Institutes of Health Research:

Dr. Marc Ouellette, Scientific Director, Institute of Infection and Immunity (by video conference);

Public Health Agency of Canada:

Steven Sternthal, Director General, Centre for Food-borne, Environmental and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases;

Robbin Lindsay, Head, Field Studies, Zoonotic Diseases and Special Pathogens Division, National Microbiology Laboratory.

The chair made a statement.

Dr. Ouellette and Mr. Sternthal each made a statement and, together with Ms. Lindsay, answered questions.

At 5:08 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:09 p.m., the committee resumed.

It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-442, An Act respecting a Federal Framework on Lyme Disease.

It was agreed that the title stand postponed.

It was agreed that the preamble stand postponed.

It was agreed that the short title in clause 1 stand postponed.

It was agreed that clause 2 carry.

It was agreed that clause 3 carry.

It was agreed that clause 4 carry.

It was agreed that clause 5 carry.

It was agreed that clause 6 carry.

It was agreed that clause 1 carry.

It was agreed that the preamble carry.

It was agreed that the title carry.

It was agreed that the bill carry.

It was agreed that the chair report the bill to the Senate

At 5:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
