The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:31 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Eggleton, P.C., Frum, Merchant, Ngo, Ogilvie, Raine, Seidman, Stewart Olsen and Wallace (10).

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, the committee continued its examination on the increasing incidence of obesity in Canada: causes, consequences and the way forward. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 22.)

WITNESSES:

Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada:

Dr. Jennifer Blake, Chief Executive Officer.

Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons:

Dr. Robert Dent, Physician.

Dr. Blake and Dr. Dent each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 11:57 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
