The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Eggleton, P.C., Enverga, Nancy Ruth, Ogilvie, Raine, Seidman, Tannas and Unger (9).

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, the committee continued its study on on the increasing incidence of obesity in Canada: causes, consequences and the way forward. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 22.)

WITNESSES:

Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada:

Manuel Arango, Director, Health Policy.

Canadian Diabetes Association:

Dr. Jan Hux, Chief Science Officer.

Canadian Cancer Society:

Joelle Walker, Senior Manager, Public and International Affairs.

Mr. Arango, Dr. Hux and Ms. Walker each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:48 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
