The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dawson, Demers, Eggleton, P.C., Greene, Lang, Mercer, Merchant, Plett and Verner, P.C. (9).

In attendance: Alexandre Lavoie, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, the committee began its consideration of the subject-matter of those elements contained in Division 8 of Part 3 of Bill C-4, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 21, 2013 and other measures.

WITNESSES:

Transport Canada:

April Nakatsu, Director General, Crown Corporation Governance;

Aline MacDougall, Director, Portfolio Policy and Governance, Crown Corporation Governance.

Ms. Nakatsu made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:12 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded in camera to discuss a draft report and a draft agenda.

It was agreed that the chair report to the Senate the committee's support of the elements contained in Division 8 of Part 3 of Bill C-4 and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to approve the final wording of the report.

At 7:22 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
