The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day, at 9:31 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dawson, Demers, Eggleton, P.C., Greene, Housakos, MacDonald, Mercer, Merchant, Plett and Verner, P.C. (10).
In attendance: Terrence Thomas and Dillan Theckedath, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, the committee continued its consideration of the subject-matter of those elements contained in Divisions 15, 16 and 28 of Part 6 of Bill C-31, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures. At 10:35 a.m., the committee resumed and pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, the committee continued its study on the challenges faced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in relation to the changing environment of broadcasting and communications. At 10:35 a.m., the Honourable Senator Merchant withdrew from the committee meeting for the duration of the proceeding on this matter pursuant to Subsection 13(2) of the Conflict of Interest Code for Senators.
The Honourable Senator Housakos moved:
That the following special study budget application on the order of reference for the study into the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the following special study budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2015, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:
Activity 1: Halifax-Quebec-Sherbrooke $ 159,905 Activity 2: Toronto 53,173 Activity 3: Montreal 49,733 Activity 4: London, UK 89,100 TOTAL $ 351,911
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
