The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 10 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dawson, Eggleton, P.C., Greene, MacDonald, Mockler, Neufeld, Oh and Plett (8).
In attendance: Alexandre Lavoie, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Mona Ishack, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 4, 2015, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-52, An Act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act.
APPEARING:
The Honourable Lisa Raitt, P.C., M.P., Minister of Transport.
WITNESSES:
Transport Canada:
Laureen Kinney, Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security;
Shawn Tupper, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy;
Alain Langlois, General Counsel and Associate Head.
The minister made a statement and, together with Ms. Kinney, Mr. Langlois and Mr. Tupper, answered questions.
At 10:58 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 11:01 a.m., the committee resumed.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, June 15, 2015, the committee began its consideration of Bill C-627, An Act to amend the Railway Safety Act (safety of persons and property).
WITNESS:

Joyce Bateman, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre, sponsor of the bill.
Ms. Bateman made a statement and answered questions.
At 11:26 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
